Managing Connectivity with IoTM

Managing Connectivity with IoTM

Christian Solomine has been working in the M2M/IoT industry for about 20 years. Prior to working with IoTM, he directed the North America Global Partner Program at Telefonica Digital, focusing on Machine-to-Machine(M2M)/IoT solutions and helped lead global business development initiatives. Prior to Telefonica, Christian ran M2M worldwide sales for Rogers Communications in Canada and directed sales at Jasper Wireless for their fleet management and consumer electronics practice. When he first started in the space he worked with vehicle tracking systems and sourced connectivity from major cell companies. There wasn’t really a way to track and control the data being used, and at the time it wasn’t a very big deal due to the small amount of devices. As the industry grew, Christian began to see an opportunity for a management service like IoTM to disrupt the marketplace and is now a board advisor for the company.

What is IoTM

IoTM is a new platform unlike many common ones today. A lot of platforms in the space have APIs, allowing a lot of solution providers to tie into them and move devices from one plan to another and get pretty basic analytics. What IoTM has done is created an easy system for the solution provider community. They have deployed into many major platforms allowing them to pull out analytical information and supply it all into one place. On top of keeping things concise, there is monthly rate plan optimization which allows you to get just the right amount of connectivity for your devices without having to drastically overpay. Most operators already allow customers to optimize their service to a device, but with hundreds of thousands of devices, it is impractical to do this manually which is where IoTM and its developed solution is meant to make it efficient and easy. IoTM best fits companies dealing in alarm systems, tracking systems, or really anything that deals with more than one data plan or sources from more than one operator. This is where you start to see the complexity, and where IoTM can be most beneficial.

Visibility

“Over 90% of the solutions providers out there are over or under utilizing the rate plans that they source from mobile network operators. And around 12% of devices out there are dormant.” What all this means is that people are paying too much and on top of that may be paying for something transmitting no data. IoTM was developed to provide the visibility for each one of your devices to see where you can best optimize your assets. Through this visibility you are also getting a deeper analysis showing things like how long a device is on the network, or different statistics dealing with life cycle management. Rate plan optimization is exciting because it is what saves you money, but providing visibility on top of saving money is important to shaping IoTM’s future and to make sure the customer is getting the best value out of the service that they can.
