The partners’ first joint solution is a K9 In-Vehicle Environmental Monitoring System. Every year police and military working dogs die after being left in unattended and overheated vehicles. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise by twenty degrees in just ten minutes and by thirty degrees in twenty minutes.
The K9 In-Vehicle Environmental Monitoring system delivers a high reliability, cost-effective solution for monitoring the temperature inside of police and military K9 transportation vehicles. It makes that information available to handlers, command staff, and dispatch personnel in real-time, increasing transparency and decreasing reaction times. The quick and easy to set up solution consists of a Senaya cellular-enabled sensor that monitors temperature inside the vehicle and communicates that data to the flowthings.io cloud-based event-processing platform in real time. The platform monitors the vehicle 24 hours a day and provides life saving, real-time alerting and notification via Blueforce’s Mobile and Command Center products.
“Heat injuries, including death, can occur when working dogs are left in a confined space, such as a car, for too long. The K9 in-vehicle solution allows you to set thresholds for the warnings and alarms that will trigger the warning system,” says Ken Ballinger, retired Plymouth County Sherriff’s K9 lead and now CEO of Alpha-Canis, a military and working dog training facility in Weymouth, Massachusetts. “Should a handler miss the Blueforce notification, supervisors and dispatchers will be notified (via text, vibration, e-mail, and ring tones) before any rise in temperature becomes a heat emergency.”
