Kairus Tarapore, former Chief Human Resource Offices of Xylem

In this week’s podcast, Ken Forster speaks with Kairus Tarapore, former Chief Human Resources Officer of Xylem, a leading global water technology company committed to developing innovative technology solutions to the world’s water and critical infrastructure challenges. For more than 30 years, Kairus has provided executive leadership for human resources across industry-leading companies such as Xylem, Babcock & Wilcox, Ceridian, and General Electric. He's provided leadership across the US, Canada, and India with cross-functional experience across sales, marketing, supply chain, and Lean Six Sigma quality.

Some of the discussion points during this interview:

  • What would you consider to be your digital thread?
  • What did you learn during your time at General Electric?
  • What ultimately attracted you to working at Xylem?
  • Xylem is now a leading global water technology company. What was your strategy for growing the company to that size from 2015 to 2020?
  • What are the top traits you've looked for in executive leadership, and to what degree has this profile changed over your career?
  • The World Economic Forum called the past 18 months 'the Great Reset' due to the impact of COVID. What do you see as the "New Normal"?

Where does Kairus find his inspiration?

Every company that I've been with, I've always made it a point to really get to know the people. Given my role, more than programs and policies, I really wanted to get to know the people and that's always been my inspiration. So, every week wherever I was after the first few months of the job, once I got to know the company and the people I always made it a point to have 30-minute catch-up sessions with people across the organization. I would set up no agenda, no specific purpose, but just have the sort of, ‘Hey, what's going on in your world?’

That really gave me great insights. Not only about what was really going on and disconnected from where we were from headquarters, but also getting to know the people, what motivates them, what drives them, what are some of their energizers?
