Stephen directed the technical strategy for Schneider Electric's IoT platform, EcoStruxure, as Chief Architect. Stephen previously worked at Microsoft for seven years as a technical program manager on the Windows Core OS team, where he advanced data center power management, improved battery life, and defined the connected standby experience.

Stephen graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He currently resides in Grenoble, France, where he has lived since 2012.

Discussion Points:

  • What would you consider to be your 'Digital Thread'?
  • What were some of the early lessons you learned at that intersection of large-scale enterprise deployment and management of critical equipment?
  • You joined Microsoft in 2005, focusing on power management and core OS features. What were your key wins and initiatives at the time?
  • In 2012, you joined Schneider Electric as Chief Architect of their EcoStruxure IoT platform. This was an interesting time period because each of the major OT players was developing their platform in response to GE's initial success with Predix. What were some of the platform's primary design considerations?
  • You've been with Momenta for three and a half years, serving as the CTO for our venture capital work and assisting with a number of critical advisory efforts, primarily through side M&A. Tell us about your responsibilities and what have been some of your favorite projects over the years?
  • You've coined a new term, Hyper-Converged Edge or HCE. What does the term mean? And how does it differ from the more widely known Hyper-Converged Infrastructure or HCI?
  • You mentioned earlier how unique Schneider's platform play was, as well as the cultural and business model changes that were required to support it. Let's call it new Edge or HCE for short. Which technology providers do you believe will come out on top and why?
