Problem
The industrial edge keeps proliferating at sustained speed – both with the deployment of new devices and equipment and as more and more silos gets broken by legacy equipment connecting to higher level networks. While the benefits are obvious – a more flexible, resilient, responsive and distributed and yet interconnected infrastructure – ensuring the management and enforcement of central policies for identity management, access management & control that manage the interaction of devices, business systems and people is getting increasingly complicated, and often exposed to security breaches. The traditional centralized approach to security not only will not be able to keep the pace of the growing number of edge devices, but constitutes a central point of failure which is the holy grail for hackers and intruders.
Solution
Led by serial successful CEO Duncan Greatwood, Xage has developed a security solution for authentication and access control which leverages distributed ledger technology. It provides a secure edge fabric for trusted interactions between people, machine and systems, while storing in a distributed fashion all security-related information. The solution is composed of Xage Broker and Xage Manager, running in cloud and enterprise DCs. These two elements allow clients to define, manage and push security policies to the edge of the network. Xage Broker connects central services with the edge devices, synchronizing credentials, certificates, policies and shared data. A light weighted client can be deployed in devices to make them become a node of the fabric.
The fabric can operate independently of central services and has self-healing capabilities.
